2018 - 2019

I regularly volunteer on the oncology and hematology inpatient unit at Johns Hopkins Children's Center. I ensure cleanliness of the playroom pictured to the left, as well as the teen room on the unit. On thanksgiving day I distributed Build-a-Bears to the all patients and families in the hospital during the holiday. On a consistent basis, I create playful opportunities for children on isolation and for children in the playroom.

 2019

During my summer practicum at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia I had two six-week rotations on inpatient Neurology and outpatient Gastrointestinal units. My individual responsibilities as a practicum student involved relevant weekly readings, assignments, introducing child life services, planning and facilitating therapeutic activities under the direct supervision of the Certified Child Life Specialist I observed on each unit. At the end of the practicum I facilitated the special event I organized and created for caregivers in the children's hospital. As you can see in the flyer to the right, this event allowed caregivers the opportunity to connect with others, create a paper succulent, and recognize how to care for themselves in this moment

Anne Arundel Medical Center Check-Up Challenge

2018 - 2019

As a volunteer at the "Check- up Challenge" I provided children a space to participate in medical play at Bowie Fest, a community event hosted annually at a park in Bowie. We partnered with a Certified Child Life Specialist from Anne Arundel Medical Center to facilitate medical play with well children attending the festival.

Teddy Bear Clinic

2018

In one of my graduate courses I worked with a team of students to create, organize, and facilitate a teddy bear clinic for two classrooms at the Towson University's Child Care. Through this assignment I witnessed the therapeutic benefits that preschool children experience as a result of medical play in addition to the developmental considerations necessary to choose activities, books, and additional resources for each of the classrooms.

2018-2019

The university sponsored child life club creates opportunities to volunteer with local hospitals and hear from local child life specialists. For example, we had the opportunity to create cards for children and siblings affected by cancer on behalf of a local organization, Cool Kids Campaign, the results of that project is pictured to the right.

Annual Sickle Cell Disease Picnic

2018

The picnic is for children and families affected by sickle cell disease. Throughout the picnic I partnered with a Certified Child Life Specialist from Johns Hopkins to facilitate therapeutic activities and medical art. At a table in the park we invited children and families to create fluffy slime, calm down jars, syringe painting, and bandage butterflies for familiarization and emotional expression.

2017 - 2018

I was a Clinic Volunteer at the Journey Clinic, which was an outpatient hematology and oncology unit within a Children's Hospital. I maintained the cleanliness of the waiting room and invited children to play while in a fast paced environment. Preparing various crafts at the beginning of my shift helped me provide  quick playful opportunities that could be transferred to another room when necessary.
